According to a doctoral dissertation at the University of Vaasa, appealing to personal well-being is a more effective way to reduce clothing consumption than invoking environmental concerns. Essi Vesterinen's research in marketing reveals that extending the lifespan of clothes is linked to better subjective well-being and a more positive body image.
The University of Vaasa is again ranked as one of the world’s top 500 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. The university is placed in the top 401-500 out of 2,191 universities evaluated. Compared to last year, the number of universities ranked increased by almost a hundred.
A new higher education consortium formed by the University of Vaasa and Vaasa University of Applied Sciences was established on 26 June 2025. An advisory board has now been appointed for the consortium, consisting of representatives from the university, the university of applied sciences, the City of Vaasa, the Ostrobothnia Chamber of Commerce, and students from both higher education institutions. Member of Parliament Matias Mäkynen serves as the chair of the advisory board.
