University of Vaasa among the top 300 in the world in Business and Economics

The University of Vaasa has improved its results in the THE (Times Higher Education) World University Rankings by Subject 2026. In Business and Economics, the university climbed into the global top 300.

The University of Vaasa participated in the rankings in four fields, achieving the following results:

  • Business and Economics: 251–300
  • Computer Science: 401–500
  • Engineering: 401–500
  • Social Sciences: 401–500

In addition to the improvement in Business and Economics, the university also improved its position in Social Sciences, and was ranked for the first time in Computer Science. In Engineering, the university maintained its position.

– We are extremely proud of our progress in international university rankings. Business and Economics being in the global top 300 further strengthens our position as a high-quality and internationally recognised university. I am particularly pleased about our research quality being rated top 32 globally for Business and Economics. We improved our results across several fields or succeeded in maintaining our position, even though the competition in international rankings intensifies every year. The results reflect our long-term efforts, and the quality of our research and internationalisation in particular are now clearly visible in international comparisons, says Vice-Rector for International Affairs Martin Meyer.

Among the best in Finland for research quality and international outlook 

As in THE's World University Rankings, the Rankings by Subject compare each subject in five different areas. The University of Vaasa's particular strengths are research quality and international outlook.

The ranking shows that the University of Vaasa is first in Finland in terms of research quality and international outlook in Engineering and Social Sciences, and second in Business and Economics. Business and Economics also rank high internationally in terms of research quality. Globally, the research quality of Business and Economics at the University of Vaasa is among the top 32.

Times Higher Education rankings

Every year, Times Higher Education (THE) ranks universities worldwide by publishing prestigious university rankings – the general university comparison THE World University Rankings, and the subject-specific comparison THE World University Rankings by Subject. The Rankings by Subject evaluated 1,067 universities from 91 countries and territories. The ranking uses the same performance indicators as THE World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields. The University of Vaasa was among the world's 500 best universities in the THE World University Rankings published on 9 October 2025.
