FITech network studies

The University of Vaasa is part of the FITech network university that offers university courses free of charge and responds to competence demands arising in the field of engineering.

FITech – The Finnish Institute of Technology

FITech is a network of Finnish universities of technology. The network consists of all the universities in Finland that offer higher education in the field of technology: Aalto University, LUT University, Tampere University, University of Eastern Finland, University of Jyväskylä, University of Oulu, University of Turku, University of Vaasa and Åbo Akademi University. Technology Industries of Finland and Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK are also members in the FITech network.

FITech offers university courses free of charge for degree students and adult learners in Finland. The studies are organised under four main themes:

  • ICT and digitalisation
  • Sustainability and energy transition
  • Science and engineering skills
  • Leadership and organisational development

The courses arranged through FITech are available for all Finns and people permanently living in Finland. Unfortunately FITech studies can’t be offered free of charge for foreigners who don’t have a Finnish personal identity code due to funding-related reasons. You need to have a Finnish personal identity code in order to apply for the studies and Finnish e-identification (e.g. online banking access codes) to confirm your study place.

The university courses completed through FITech are awarded with study credits (ECTS). Adult learners can also receive a digital badge for completing a course. Most FITech courses are organised as online studies, and there is also content available for completely independent study, making the courses ideal for studying alongside work and everyday life.

The different FITech projects are funded by for example the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) and the Service Center for Continuous Learning and Employment (SECLE).
