– I am delighted to continue in this role. Over the past five years, we have built strong foundations: expanding our presence in networks like HERMES and Scancor, launching new collaborations with partner universities across three continents, and becoming the first Nordic institution to achieve BSIS certification.
He also highlights the establishment of new double degree and quality mobility partnerships that offer students genuinely international pathways. The university’s international student community has more than tripled, and major research funding has been secured, including the ASAP Global Center Alliance backed by the US National Science Foundation and Research Council of Finland.
Looking ahead, Meyer wants to sharpen our focus on areas where Vaasa can achieve genuine global distinction, particularly where energy expertise meets sustainable innovation.
– Our size allows us to be agile and strategic rather than simply broad. I look forward to working with colleagues, students and partners to realise this agenda in the two years to come.
The Vice-rector’s responsibilities include advancing the internationalisation of research and degree programmes, strengthening strategic international partnerships and networks, and developing accreditations and university ranking positions. The Vice-rector actively represents the University of Vaasa in international networks.
