Students who graduated from University of Vaasa during autumn 2025 were celebrated at Publiikki on December 18. Publiikki is the University’s joint graduation ceremony, held twice a year.

At the Publiikki event on December 18, speeches were given by Rector Minna Martikainen and graduating student Henna Halmela, Master of Administrative Sciences. In addition to the festive atmosphere and the distribution of scholarships, musical performances by Henriikka Warmbold and Timo Kiprianoff added to the celebration.

Rector Minna Martikainen highlighted in her speech the importance of education from both an individual and societal perspective. Education is a pathway forward for individuals, but together with research, it also forms the foundation for sustainable growth, innovation, and well-being for society as a whole.

During their studies, students have learned a great deal – they have immersed themselves in the world of knowledge and science and have grown into experts in their fields. The new jobs of Finland’s future will require higher levels of education than before.

- Your expertise is especially needed in fields where Finland builds growth – in energy, technologies, economy and business, as well as in societal development.

Henna Halmela, who graduated as a Master of Administrative Sciences, emphasized the importance of family, friends, and close circles in her speech. In addition, fellow students play a significant role. Although the diploma only contains the graduate’s name, the study journey has been shared together.

- We cannot manage alone, even if we want to. And fortunately, we don’t have to. Friendship has been the driving force of this journey. Together, the heavy moments have become a little easier to bear, and the light moments even more enjoyable.

Regarding the future, Halmela reflected that many students likely share similar thoughts with her. Alongside feelings of gratitude, pride, and relief, there is also a sense of uncertainty.

- Am I on the right career path? Do I live in the right city? Should I study something more? There is nothing wrong with being unfinished; it is even a privilege. It is not a sign of failure, but of moving forward and not standing still. From here, we continue – as graduates, yet still unfinished.
