School of Technology and Innovations

Our activities are guided by three key goals: we educate skilled professionals to meet the needs of local and international companies with up-to-date degree programmes; we produce internationally recognized research led by top scholars; and we build extensive research infrastructure in collaboration with other universities and industry partners. For example, EnergyLab provides a platform for developing and testing new technologies. In this way, we ensure that technological expertise supports a sustainable and secure society – now and in the future.

The School’s research spans both basic and applied research across a wide range of fields. Key strengths include artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematics, and statistics, where basic research is driven by real-world needs and phenomena. Research topics often emerge from challenges in application domains and are approached through a "use-inspired basic research" mindset. The aim is to understand and model technical and economic phenomena, develop new digital solutions, and improve the efficiency and reliability of systems.
The School’s strategic research areas are artificial intelligence and digital value systems, resilient energy systems, and industrial transformation. Our research supports the energy transition and sustainable development by creating solutions for decentralized energy production, electricity distribution, and energy use. At the same time, we promote the adoption of digital solutions across various industry value chains, enhancing productivity and competitiveness.
