Studying in summer 2023

When planning your summer studies, please contact your study counsellor if you have any questions about whether your planned summer studies are appropriate for your degree or about credit transfers. More information about applying for a recommendation to carry out studies at open universities or summer universities and the associated course fee compensation is available on the Modules and minor subjects webpage, in the Compensation for open or summer university study fees section.

The EXAM electronic exam service and the national exam visit opportunities are available throughout the summer. From 22 June to 6 August, the EXAM room at the University of Vaasa is open Monday to Friday, 8:00–15:00. On Midsummer Eve 23 June EXAM is closed. Information about financial aid for summer studies can be found on the Kela website, in the Study during the summer months section. Kela’s financial aid for Higher Education students for the summer months is granted based on applications. You can be granted financial aid for the time period you applied it for. Applications for financial aid for summer studies are submitted online. Please note that the financial aid for summer studies is deducted from your total eligibility for financial aid, which is calculated in months. Any summer months for which a student receives financial aid are also taken into account when checking the student’s annual income and monitoring their progress in their studies.

Study and Education Services have moved to the Ankkuri building. You can contact staff by phone or by email. Staff are also available for meetings by arrangement – the meetings will be held in the counselling rooms on the 4th floor of the Fabriikki building.

Study counsellors and other Student and Education Services staff will generally be out of office in July. Mobility Services can be reached throughout the summer by email (outgoing.international(at)uwasa.fi). Admission Services can similarly be contacted by email throughout the summer (admissions(at)uwasa.fi). You can also contact the Education Systems Services (edusys(at)uwasa.fi) by email, but note that there may be some delays in responses during July.

Tritonia Academic Library is open the whole summer, except for the last two weeks in July (floor renovation). During the renovation you can´t access the library with the key. Loans will not fall due during that time. Opening hours: 1.6.–14.7. and 31.7.–18.8. Mon–Fri 8–16, Midsummer 23.–25.6. and 17.7.–30.7. library is closed. You can contact the loans service by email at loans(at)uwasa.fi throughout the summer and the library chat will also be available in June, in July where possible and in August. Interlibrary loans services, acquisition and Book a tutorial -service are closed in July. For more information, see the library website, under Summer opening hours.

University of Vaasa sports services offer the purchasers of the sports sticker the chance to use WSC’s weight room and group exercises during the summer of 2023. You can use these services on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In addition, you can get discounted pricing on Padel X hall, Tennis Center, Wasa Up and the Vaasa swimming hall services fees. FSHS in Vaasa is open throughout the summer except on Midsummer Eve (24 June). The service unit in Vaasa is open Mon–Thu 8–15 and Fridays 8–14. However, note that the FSHS summer service provisions are scaled to the estimated lower summertime service demand. The national digital and remote services operate in a normal manner throughout summer.
