The European Union has granted a funding of nearly EUR 4 million from the Horizon 2020 programme for the GLOMO project that studies the global mobility of employees. The University of Vaasa is participating in the research project, and its share of the funding is over EUR 500,000.

The GLOMO project is establishing a new doctoral training programme that is recruiting 15 doctoral students from all over the world, which means approximately two students for each participating university. The recruitment of doctoral students for the three-year positions has just started.

In his doctoral dissertation, Jesse Heimonen examines what is the role of entrepreneurial orientation in improving the growth, profitability, and innovation performance of a firm. Entrepreneurial orientation refers to a firm’s willingness to proactively seek new market opportunities, experiment with innovative ideas and take risks when the outcomes are uncertain. Despite the majority of the prior literature considers entrepreneurial orientation as universally advantageous, the core message of the dissertation highlights that it is not always so.

The language competence of police officers who work in the bilingual police departments of Finland is not on sufficient level from the point of view of language legislation. This is shown in the sociolinguistics dissertation by Sanna Heittola.

–Only a third of the Finnish officers estimate that their language competence is on such a level that they can perform their job also in Swedish, says Heittola who will defend her thesis at the University of Vaasa.
