Technology companies are increasingly trying to grow their revenues by creating value to customers through services. In practice, however, customer and company views on value and its creation do not always meet. This is shown in the international marketing dissertation by Tiina Leposky, where the author studies the service transition of a Finnish multinational enterprise.

According to Tuomas Huikkola’s doctoral thesis “Escaping the commoditization trap by going downstream: How does a manufacturer manage its capabilities to create wealth from solutions?” the service business has been viewed whether as a goldmine or a lifeguard for the western technology companies in the era of product commoditization. The dissertation consists of four empirical articles. Qualitative comparative case study method has been applied in the articles. Several Finnish technology companies that have pursued successful servitization strategies have been studied in the thesis.

A new study on the “Challenges to effective management of public sector organizations in an institutionally corrupt society: a study of Nigeria”, from the University of Vaasa shows that there are other factors that pose a big challenge to effectiveness of public sector organizations.
