The University of Vaasa has received funding from Business Finland for the FlexiPower research and development project, which focuses on developing and commercialising the "Building as a Battery" (BaaB) solution. The project aims to find solutions that utilise existing building infrastructure as flexible energy sources.

According to the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject, the University of Vaasa’s research quality is the highest in Finland in engineering and second in business. The university also ranks highly internationally – the quality of research in these fields is among the top 20 in Europe, and among the top 50 in the world in business.
