The University of Vaasa's Big Heart Award has been awarded to Heini Pensar, University Lecturer in Human Resources Management. Big Heart award is an equality award given by the University of Vaasa. The award was given on 12 February at a Valentine's Day event for the whole university.

The 57th anniversary of the University of Vaasa was celebrated on Monday, 27 January 27, with the theme "Solutions for the future with a big heart." The keynote speakers were Mari Kiviniemi, Chair of the Board of the University of Vaasa, and Minna Helle, CEO of Technology Industries of Finland. The event also featured a welcoming speech by Rector Minna Martikainen. Additionally, awards for the research and teaching acts of the year, as well as the Student Union's Good Teacher Award, were presented.

During the anniversary celebration on Monday 27 January, the University of Vaasa awarded the research and teaching acts of the year. The Research Act of the Year 2024 was awarded to Professor of Energy Technology Maciej Mikulski, Head of Financial Services Elina Blomqvist, Laboratory Manager Sonja Heikkilä and Dean of the School of Technology and Innovations Raine Hermans. University teachers Susanna Mantila and Mia Juthman got the Teaching Act of the Year 2024. In addition, University Lecturer Juho-Pekka Mäkipää received the Good Teacher award and University Lecturer Teemu Mäenpää an honorary mention from the Students' Union of the University of Vaasa.
