The University of Vaasa and Hitachi Energy Finland Oy signed a comprehensive strategic agreement on Monday, 24 November, to strengthen cooperation in research and education. The goal is to promote a diverse partnership that supports sustainable well-being, international competitiveness, and regional vitality.

The agreement covers both teaching and talent recruitment as well as research. Collaboration in teaching and competence development supports the education and employment of new experts, for example through the CoDoc model, which enables close cooperation between the doctoral researcher and the company during doctoral studies.

Research cooperation, in turn, will foster innovation and create new solutions to advance the green transition and achieve sustainable development goals. In addition, both parties commit to increasing societal impact and strengthening the region’s knowledge capital.

– We are very pleased with the years of close and fruitful cooperation with the University of Vaasa. This agreement is a natural continuation and creates a strong basis for long-term development work to benefit the academic world, business life and the entire region, says Matti Vaattovaara, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Finland.

– The University of Vaasa is committed to ensuring that research and education deliver tangible added value to society and businesses. The strategic partnership with Hitachi Energy is a significant step toward the green transition and building a sustainable future. This collaboration opens new opportunities for students and researchers and strengthens Finland’s competitiveness as we aim to increase RDI investments to six percent. Our goal is to educate professionals across all university disciplines to meet the needs of the energy industry and sustainable business. This partnership is an excellent example of how, together, we can create innovations and promote sustainable development, says Minna Martikainen, Rector of the University of Vaasa.
