The research project led by the University of Vaasa receives funding in the amount of EUR 950,000 from the Building the Future - Taking Action programme of the Centennial Foundation of the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries and Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation. The project will research the application of small satellite technology for precise positioning of indoor spaces and navigation. A new small satellite will also be designed in the project. The partners are National Land Survey of Finland, University of Tampere and Aalto University.

A consortium led by the University of Vaasa is about to receive significant funding from the EU's Horizon 2020 programme for a research project that promotes low-carbon shipping by combining several energy technologies and innovative ship design. The CHEK – deCarbonizing sHipping by Enabling Key technology symbiosis on real vessel concept designs – project involves, in addition to the University of Vaasa, World Maritime University, Wärtsilä, Cargill, MSC Cruises, Lloyds Register, Silverstream Technologies, Hasytec, Deltamarin, Climeon and BAR Technologies.

Global pandemic and distant work provided new opportunities for students and me as a teacher, says Ausrine Silenskyte, University Teacher from the University of Vaasa. This year, in the course International Management students were guided by several highly experienced international managers. The students were also provided to participate in the project X-Culture, in which they were working in global virtual teams on real consultancy projects for international companies.

The University of Vaasa has completed the techno-economic study of biomethane liquefaction processes. Five liquefaction technologies best suited for small-scale production were selected for technical analysis, for which the report presents process descriptions and reference plants from around the world. In the economic study, the most advantageous life cycle costs were obtained for mixed refrigerant processes based on the reverse Rankine cycle.
