The University of Vaasa among the top 70 young universities in the world in the prestigious THE rankings

THE ranking young universities
Following our ranking success in the THE World University Rankings and Subject rankings last autumn, the University of Vaasa has now been confirmed 70th in the Times Higher Education Young Universities Rankings.

–These ranking results showcase the excellent work of our staff and they are a welcome continuation to our previous success in the other THE ranking categories. Participating and performing well in international university rankings will also allow us to extend and develop further partnerships with high-quality universities, says Vice-Rector Martin Meyer.

The University of Vaasa is ranked 70th among the 790 young universities evaluated, and 7th among Nordic universities.

The 2022 THE Young Universities Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger. It applies the same methodology as the World University Rankings, with recalibrated weightings to reflect the profiles of young universities. The University of Vaasa in its current form was founded in 1991. There are two other Finnish universities on the list: the University of Tampere and Aalto University.

The ranking evaluates universities in five areas: research, references, teaching, internationalisation, and corporate financing. The rankings are compiled on the basis of a total of 13 indicators. As a key difference to the World University Rankings, the Young Universities Rankings place a lesser emphasis on reputational indicators.
