This June, 268 students are receiving their master’s degree upon graduation from the University of Vaasa. On Wednesday 18 June, the university organised the degree ceremony Publiikki to celebrate the students who have completed their master’s degree during the spring semester.

– You have had your ups and downs during your studies. It's part of life and part of the course of life. You have also observed upheavals in the world around you, which have a ripple effect on your own life. There has been a lot more history written in the last few years - more than anyone could probably have imagined about 5 years ago, says Minna Martikainen, Rector of the University of Vaasa, in her speech.

– I believe that it is critical thinking, encountering information in a humane way – transmitting and processing information as expert work from one person to another, that is the part of learning that will be retained, and is probably the most important working life skill for you.

Publiikki was organised as two separate events. First graduation ceremony was for the Masters of Science in Administrative Sciences, Masters of Arts, MScs in Technology, and MScs in Economics and Business Administration graduating in industrial management, computing sciences and technical communication, and doctoral graduates within these fields. Second graduation ceremony was for the Masters and Doctors of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

– Today, you become our alumni. An alumni is a role model for younger people. Even as you press the door shut today, with joy I believe, you still have an important role and mission.
