The Misleading Consumers research project hosted an event on Wednesday, May 6th, focusing on digital rhetoric and online scams.
We were delighted to welcome Professor of rhetoric and visual communication Jens Kjeldsen from University of Bergen as a guest speaker at the event. He gave an inspiring and thought-provoking presentation titled "The Rhetoric of Deceit in Online Fraud", which explored the persuasive and misleading rhetoric strategies used in online scams and fraud.
We also celebrated the book launch of Maria Eronen-Valli and Lotta Lehti's Digitaalinen retoriikka: eetoksesta hämäysreettoriin (Digital Rhetoric: From Ethos to Deceptive Rhetoric, 2026, Vastapaino). This publication is the first introduction to the rhetoric of digital communication written in Finnish.
