Oana Apostol

Professional background and research interests

I started as an Associate Professor at the School of Accounting and Finance in August 2025, after previously serving in different positions at Tampere University and University of Turku.

In broad terms, my research is positioned within the field of sustainability accounting, addressing a range of topics, including sustainability reporting and regulation, alternative accounts, commensurability and tax avoidance. In recent times, I became interested in exploring possibilities for better connecting organizational accounting to large-scale grand challenges we face today, such as climate change and biodiversity loss.

I am actively involved in several academic networks in different roles. I serve as Joint Editor of the Social and Environmental Accountability Journal, the publication outlet of the Centre for Social and Environment Accounting Research (CSEAR) community. I sit on the Editorial Boards of several academic journals, namely Critical Perspectives of Accounting; European Accounting Review; Accounting in Europe; Journal of Business Ethics; Accounting in Europe; Journal of Accounting and Management Information Systems. In addition, I act as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed accounting journals. I am a member of the European Accounting Association (EAA) Virtual Activities Committee, of the Scientific Committee of the EAA Annual Congresses and I have contributed to the organization and coordination of multiple academic events, from seminars to conferences.
