EQUIS accreditation places the university among the world’s top institutions – only around three per cent of business schools globally meet the EQUIS quality standards. The accreditation has been granted for three years. Its continuation will be regularly reviewed through a comprehensive evaluation of the university’s activities and performance, ensuring continuous quality enhancement.
This is a highly significant achievement for the University of Vaasa, as the EQUIS accreditation awarded covers all four schools of the University. This substantially strengthens the university’s international standing. In most other universities in Finland and internationally, the accreditation primarily covers the field of business studies.
– Successfully completing the evaluation process demonstrates that we meet demanding international quality standards. The University of Vaasa’s ambition is reflected in the fact that we completed the EQUIS process exceptionally quickly. I would like to thank our dedicated staff, students and partners for their invaluable contribution, says Rector Minna Martikainen.
With this recognition, the University of Vaasa becomes the first university outside the Helsinki metropolitan area to receive EQUIS accreditation. In Finland, only two other universities have previously been granted this distinction.
The University of Vaasa now holds AACSB and EQUIS accreditations, which are part of the so-called triple crown. The third accreditation in this group is AMBA. With the addition of EQUIS, the University now has two of these highly respected international quality accreditations.
EQUIS accreditation is a globally recognised mark of excellence for business and management education. It involves a rigorous evaluation of institutions based on criteria such as academic programmes, faculty quality, research output, and student services.
Achieving EQUIS accreditation demonstrates dedication to continuous improvement and adherence to global excellence standards. Its approach to quality assessment is rooted in respect for the diversity of institutional and cultural contexts. Beyond academic rigour, it emphasises international perspective, corporate relevance and ethical leadership.
The accredited schools benefit from enhanced institutional reputation, attract seasoned faculty and students, foster academic partnerships and signal to employers that graduates possess a high standard of business education.
