The University of Vaasa is strengthening its presence in the Helsinki metropolitan area and moving into new, larger premises in the heart of the city. The new Helsinki campus, opening at the end of March, will serve as a base for the University’s students, staff and partners.

– The University of Vaasa is Finland’s fastest-growing and most efficient university. Now this energy will have a new focal point in Helsinki as well. The Helsinki campus will provide a meeting place for students, researchers and our partners, says Rector Minna Martikainen.

With the new premises, the University aims to provide improved services for students living in the Helsinki metropolitan area and to strengthen research and industry collaboration.

Supporting students

The Helsinki campus will function as a flexible meeting and working space that complements the Vaasa campus. The new facilities have been designed to serve several different user groups. For degree students living in the metropolitan area, the campus will offer concrete support, such as thesis clinics, particularly during the final stages of their studies. In addition, an EXAM room will be opened on campus, enabling students to complete electronic examinations flexibly.

Active interaction and research collaboration

In addition to student services, the premises will serve as a workspace for the University’s staff and researchers. The premises provide improved facilities for preparing research projects, holding project meetings and collaborating with corporate partners. The campus will also support research interviews, Master’s thesis and doctoral supervision, as well as the initiation of various collaborative projects.

With the new premises, the University of Vaasa is also strengthening its visibility in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The University’s aim is to further increase active interaction with stakeholders by organising expert events, meetings and workshops in the new facilities. The University of Vaasa’s research and education support sustainable economic growth in Finland, the green transition and the development of a resilient society.

Premises opening in spring 2026

The new premises are located in the Fennia Block on Mikonkatu, close to Rautatientori Square. The University’s logo was added to the building façade in February. The University will relocate from its current premises to the new facilities on Mikonkatu at the end of March.
