The popularity of the University of Vaasa’s doctoral programme has grown particularly among international applicants. A large share of the applicants come from outside Finland, and over one third of current doctoral students are international.
– It is encouraging to see that the University of Vaasa’s doctoral education is attracting more and more interest. We are continuously developing our doctoral education, and have clarified and harmonised the structure of doctoral studies across all fields. The university is also involved in several international doctoral education networks, which offer our doctoral students opportunities to develop their expertise and expand their international networks. Our aim is to provide high-quality, multidisciplinary and international doctoral education that generates new knowledge for Finland’s RDI sector, says Vice-Rector for Research Mika Grundström.
The University of Vaasa is also continuously developing cooperation related to doctoral education. For example, the university’s CoDoc collaboration model integrates a company's or third party's research topic into the doctoral researcher's research topic. The research topics of dissertations within the CoDoc model rise especially from the research interests of actors in the surrounding society.
The University of Vaasa’s doctoral programme covers more than 20 research fields across three academic disciplines. The University of Vaasa produces Doctors of Science in Business Administration and Economics, Doctors of Science in Technology, Doctors of Science in Administrative Sciences and Doctors of Science in Philosophy.
The results for the spring application round of the doctoral programme will be published at the beginning of May. The main admissions for the doctoral programme are organised twice a year, in spring and autumn. The next application round in 2026 will take place from 15 August to 15 September.
