Kela news: 100,000 students have yet to pay the student healthcare fee
The fee is payable by a higher education degree students who have registered as attending. The 31 January 2021 due date applies to students who register as attending for the spring term by 31 January 2021. Students who fail to pay the fee by the due date are automatically charged a EUR 5 late fee.
In 2021, the student healthcare fee in higher education is EUR 35.80 per term. It can be paid via Kela's e-service or as a bank transfer. Instructions for paying the healthcare fee are available on Kela’s website.
On 14 January 2021, Kela sent a letter with information about the healthcare fee to students confirmed to have registered as attending for the spring term 2021. The letter can now also be accessed via Kela’s e-service.
Students who registered as attending this January may not have received the letter. Also, in some cases, the letter may have gone out to students who are not liable for the fee. This can include students who graduated in autumn term 2020, but whose graduation was not notified to Kela before the letter was sent.
Students have been able to pay the fee since 30 November 2020 either through their bank or on Kela’s e-service. A total of 156 000 students have to date paid the fee.
