Graduates celebrated at Publiikki: “Finland’s future is built on expertise, and the graduating students are exactly what the country needs”
During the celebration day, speeches were given by Rector Minna Martikainen as well as graduating students Anuruddika Wanninayake, Ataur Rahman, and Chathuri Mahishika Thalagahawatta.
In her speech, Rector Minna Martikainen congratulated the graduates and reminded them that the degree is not the result of one major success, but of many everyday choices. University studies do not provide a ready-made map for the future but rather strengthen the ability to outline one’s direction when the path is not yet clear.
– You have learned how to learn, to use knowledge, and to create new knowledge. That is your greatest achievement—make the most of it.
According to Martikainen, Finland’s future is built on expertise, and the graduating students are exactly what the country needs: highly educated professionals who can think independently, develop new ideas, put knowledge into practice, and raise the level of competence.
– In the current economic situation, learning ability, critical thinking, collaboration skills, and resilience—the ability to maintain direction and functional capacity even amid change—are emphasized. As you graduate today, you carry a significant reserve of expertise with you.
During the entire spring semester, 495 master’s, 259 bachelor’s, and 6 doctoral graduates completed their degrees at the University of Vaasa. In total, 760 students graduated during the spring semester. Approximately 25 percent of those completing master’s degree were international students.
The University of Vaasa warmly congratulates all students who graduated at the Publiikki and throughout the spring semester of 2026!
