Climate change is intensifying heatwaves and heavy rainfall in many parts of the world. Europe has faced heatwaves, floods and droughts. How can it prepare for the impacts of climate change and keep climate policy moving forward amid wars, geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainty?

Welcome to a guest lecture by Elina Bardram, the University of Vaasa’s Alumna of the Year 2026. Bardram is Director for Climate Resilience and Information Management at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA). In her current role, she leads EU work on climate adaptation and preparedness.

Bardram has extensive experience in international climate policy. She headed the EU delegation to UN climate negotiations from 2014 to 2018, including the negotiations that led to the Paris Agreement.

Her lecture will explore climate policy and political decision-making in a turbulent global environment. The lecture will be held in English.

Coffee will be served in the lobby of the Tervahovi building before the lecture. The lecture is free of charge, and students and anyone interested in the topic are welcome.
