Study Psychologist

The study psychologist offers individual counselling and guidance in issues related to motivation, time management, stress and thesis writing . The study psychologist’s services are for Bachelor’s, Master’s and research students at the University of Vaasa.

Services of the study psychologist

The study psychologist work is focused on enhancing motivation, improving time management and progression of studies as well as personal well-being. Together with the study psychologist, you can work on how to solve learning related issues related or discuss your study goals.

The study psychologist offers both individual appointments and group meetings.

When to contact the study psychologist?

The counselling focuses on difficulties with the progression of studies or related issues, such as:

  • Issues related to motivation
  • Strength and energy
  • Anxiety (e.g. performance anxiety or participating in group work)
  • Stress management
  • Time management or the feeling you’re not getting things done
  • Maintaining your ability to study
  • Developing your study and learning skills
  • Difficulties with your thesis or with the writing process
  • Returning to your studies after a long break.

The psychologist works together with you to find solutions, enhance study skills, improve efficiency and develop new ways of thinking and acting in order to enhance the prerequisites for studying.

The study psychologist is bound by confidentiality. The content of the discussions will be kept private and confidential. Students can have 1-5 sessions; the duration of each session is around 45 minutes.

You can also contact the study psychologist if you need special support due to some disability, guidance or individual arrangements for studying, taking exams or completing the maturity exam.

The study psychologist does not carry out psychological assessments, treat or diagnose mental health disorders or any other health issues. If you need help with issues of this kind, please contact FSHS or your health centre.
