Make a Break project
Pidä paussi – Make a Break 2 is a project launched by the University of Vaasa to raise awareness among the university community about the benefits of physical activity and to provide university students with facilities and equipment to support taking breaks.
The project raises awareness among the university community about the importance of an active study day, taking breaks, and pedagogical methods for learning ability and well-being in various ways, including through joint practices, training, and events.
The university has received a grant for the Pidä paussi – Make a Break 2 project from the Ministry of Education and Culture. The project runs from 1 August 2025 to 31 July 2026.
Supporting learning ability
Students are supported in coping and well-being by raising awareness of the importance of physical activity and taking breaks. Social experiences and active lifestyles are integrated into everyday life through training, sports ambassadors, and inspiring communication.
The project develops the university's sports services by increasing the range of activities on offer and focusing on accessibility. The aim is to create student-oriented services where peer-to-peer exercise and consideration for the needs of different groups make staying active easier and more enjoyable for everyone. At the same time, opportunities for physical activity and participating in sports during the school day or in its immediate vicinity are being developed.
Close cooperation between the student union, YTHS, and the City of Vaasa will boost students' everyday well-being. The project aims to bring together a community where exercise, participation, and well-being go hand in hand.
Enhancing the sense of community
Student presence on campus and campus spirit are supported through various events and activities. This also strengthens the sense of community and creates opportunities for students to get to know each other.
You can apply for an event grant from the Make a Break project to organize an event or occasion that promotes students' physical activation, breaking up the study day/period and well-being. Grants can be applied for by a student organization at the University of Vaasa, the student union VYY, or an individual student at the University of Vaasa. The supported events are alcohol-free, interdisciplinary and non-profit.
