Project description

Novel Power Infra is a concept for a shared research and testing environment for validating electrical engineering solutions and power systems, from device level to system level.

As the power systems change rapidly, new solutions must be shown to work not only as devices but also as part of the wider whole. Testing an individual device is possible, but there is no comprehensive environment for verification at system level. Novel Power Infra addresses this challenge by bringing together three layers – virtual, digital and physical – into a single environment, in which the same solution can be verified from simulation towards physical testing, certification and real operating conditions.

The concept is currently being defined through VECTORIA, a University of Vaasa project and the first funded initiative focused on establishing the foundation for Novel Power Infra. Rather than building the environment itself, VECTORIA develops the specifications needed for future implementation through close collaboration with industry and international benchmarking, creating a foundation for future development and decision-making.

The project is funded by the Regional Council of Ostrobothnia through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and is connected to national and European electrical engineering testing infrastructure initiatives.
