Finance and Financial Accounting

About the research group
The Finance and Financial Accounting research group (FRG) focuses on finance and financial accounting. The group's areas of expertise cover major areas including, corporate finance, banking, financial markets and financial statement analysis and other areas in empirical accounting. Researchers of finance and financial accounting at the University of Vaasa are pioneers in their field of research internationally. During the past decades they have published hundreds of scientific articles in leading and high-impact journals.
The research tradition is also strongly reflected in current projects that increasingly pursue interdisciplinary topics that address key societal grand challenges such as climate, in keeping with the University of Vaasa’s wider focus. Recent projects have focused on the examination of the way financial markets operate and connections with corporate financing and investor decision-making, as well as emergent technologies and how to make firms accountable for their impact on climate and biodiversity.
The research group is internationally oriented and members actively collaborate with leading academics and practitioners from across the world.
The research group focuses particularly on the following themes:
- Emerging financial markets
- Derivatives markets
- Macroeconomic factors and financial markets
- Monetary policy and financial markets
- Banking and bank performance
- Corporate finance
- Female executives and corporate governance
