New technologies, such as robots, smart wristbands, artificial intelligence as well as AR, VR, and other extended reality (XR) tools, are increasingly surrounding us in many areas of our lives. In addition to hype, benefits, and fun, they also bring new everyday challenges to our working lives, says Satu Rantakokko in her doctoral dissertation. Her dissertation focuses particularly on how XR can be used to mediate technical instructions.

Roman Filenko’s doctoral dissertation examines why international joint ventures (IJV) are terminated and how this affects the parent firms. His research highlights that parent firms have varying reasons for choosing sell-off, acquisition or liquidation of IJVs. The specific mode of termination does not impact the value of the parent company in the same way as the characteristics of the operation market do.

The School of Technology and Innovations at the University of Vaasa joins the Smart Cities and Communities joint master’s degree programme of four European universities. This is the first Erasmus Mundus Joint Programme for the University of Vaasa. The other participating universities are the University of Mons from Belgium, International Hellenic University from Greece, and University of the Basque Country from Spain.
