Since the end of last year, contract negotiations have been held between the University of Vaasa, VAMK University of Applied Sciences and Novia University of Applied Sciences.

Contract negotiations have now been concluded. The University of Vaasa, VAMK University of Applied Sciences and Novia University of Applied Sciences have signed a cooperation agreement regarding academic library services from 1 January 2021. The agreement covers organization of academic library services on the Palosaari campus area in Vaasa, both local services and digital online services.

The cooperation agreement is long-term, until 2030, and includes basic library services for all parties. The University of Vaasa is responsible for producing the academic library services. As part of the extensive campus development of the University of Vaasa, the Luotsi building has already been chosen as the new site of the Tritonia Academic Library. The library will operate there from the beginning of 2022.

− The Tritonia Academic Library forms a unique entity and operating model, and we are pleased that the good-spirited negotiations have now been completed. The library will continue to serve the library and information service needs of students, teachers and researchers in three languages, Finnish, Swedish, and English. The principle also remains that it is open to all, even if the collections serve primarily the teaching and research fields of the higher education institutions, says Jari Kuusisto, rector of the University of Vaasa.

− Academic libraries will get new tasks as the megatrends of teaching and research: digitalization and openness, proceed. Competence development will be essential over the next few years. It is great that we can offer ever better services for the future together with our good staff and co-operating organizations, says Anne Lehto, director of Tritonia.
