University of Vaasa keeps its position among the world’s top 500 universities – Strong results in research quality and international outlook

The University of Vaasa is again ranked as one of the world’s top 500 universities in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026. The university is placed in the top 401-500 out of 2,191 universities evaluated. Compared to last year, the number of universities ranked increased by almost a hundred.

Ranked 106th in research quality globally, the University of Vaasa improved its last year’s result (108th) and is now even closer to the global top 100. Research quality is one of the areas assessed in the rankings and it is a key indicator for citation impact and research strength, excellence, and influence.

The University of Vaasa improved its position also in international outlook, now placed 472nd globally (rise from last year’s 482nd). The international outlook pillar evaluates international co-authorship, international staff and students, and studying abroad.

This year, nine Finnish universities were ranked in the THE World University Rankings. The University of Vaasa performed especially well among Finnish universities in research quality, where the university climbed to number one (2nd last year). In international outlook, the university climbed to third place (4th last year).
