Tanja Risikko appointed as Director of Stakeholder and EU Affairs at the University of Vaasa

Tanja Risikko, Doctor of Science in Technology, has been appointed as the Director of Stakeholder and EU Affairs at the University of Vaasa. She will officially start on 1 September.

Risikko has extensive experience in societal interaction and network management in the fields of higher education and research, as well as in advocacy work in higher education and science policy. Risikko joins the University of Vaasa from the Universities Finland UNIFI, where she has served as the Executive Director since 2020. In her current position, Risikko has been leading UNIFI’s activities in its advocacy work in higher education and science policy and in promoting cooperation between universities.

Previously, Risikko has served as the Director of the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius. She has a long career in higher education and research institutions. During her career, Risikko has particularly emphasised the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and universities' close relationship with the surrounding society.

– I am truly delighted that Tanja Risikko, who has a broad understanding of higher education and is a strong network management professional, will be joining us as the Director of Stakeholder and EU Affairs. This position is very important to us as we aim to strengthen the visibility of the University of Vaasa in scientific and educational policy discussion and decision-making processes and develop our cooperation with our stakeholders, says Rector Minna Martikainen.

Tanja Risikko will join the university management group. As the Director of Stakeholder and EU Affairs, she will focus on strengthening the university's societal interaction both nationally and at the EU level and developing stakeholder engagement and advocacy work.

– In international competition, a versatile impact and the partnerships of universities are playing an increasingly important role. The University of Vaasa has a unique, well-defined profile, and it has continuously strengthened its international collaboration. It feels great to be joining this inspiring university community, says Tanja Risikko.
