Students who have accepted a study place in one of our international Master's programme can now enrol in the professional mentoring programme starting in fall 2026. The programme connects students in our international Master’s degree programmes with experienced professionals from working life. The programme is embedded into your degree and supports your career development, working‑life understanding and professional networking throughout your studies.

Two-part learning journey

The professional mentoring programme is designed as a two‑part learning journey that grows with you during your Master’s studies. The first part focuses on building a strong foundation in working‑life skills, while the second (optional) part offers opportunities for deeper, more personalised development.

During your first year, the programme covers general themes related to working life and professional skills.
Students gain insight into workplace expectations, professional communication, career exploration and Finnish working‑life culture.

Assessment and learning components:

  • Learning journal
  • Video blog (vlog) reflection
  • Assignments linked to your studies or mentoring discussions

The year concludes with a joint celebration recognising your progress and shared journey.

In the second year, the students who have participated in the 1st part of the mentoring programme have an option to continue their mentoring relationship, allowing for deeper professional growth and more advanced discussions.

What you gain

  • Insight into Finnish and international working life
  • A better understanding of your study field and future career paths
  • Support for career planning and professional growth
  • Opportunities to reflect on your skills, goals and strengths
  • Valuable professional networks that may support your career after graduation

What we expect

  • Commitment for the full duration of the programme
  • Active participation and preparation before mentoring meetings
  • Responsibility for your own learning and progress
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to engage with your mentor

Who can participate

The mentoring programme will be launched in the University of Vaasa's international Master’s programmes in the fall term 2026. Students who start their studies in these programmes can enrol after accepting their study place.

A briefing session at the beginning of the academic year will provide essential information and prepare students for the mentoring journey. Participation in the briefing session is recommended for all selected students.

The official programme launch will take place in October 2026.
