Restaurant operations are planned for the red Makasiini building on the University of Vaasa campus. The university is planning to rent the area to an outside entrepreneur.

– We are developing the campus into a dynamic and attractive area that is open to staff, students, city dwellers and partners. We are proud to be by the sea, and we want to make the most of the potential of our beautiful campus area, says Harri Salmela, the director of finance of the university.

The plan is to renovate the surfaces of the 19th-century warehouse and have it in use in the summertime. The entrepreneur will also apply for a deviation permit for a new building to be built opposite the Makasiini building. This way, the restaurant could be open all year round. In addition to the restaurant, the buildings would include room for meetings.

The deviation permit will be dealt with by the building and environmental committee of the city of Vaasa on 6 April. The committee will handle the building permit later in the spring. Construction will start as soon as the building permit has been approved. The restaurant entrepreneur will give more details on the project as the permit process progresses.
