DISRUPTING THE MEDIA SCENE. Adopting emerging technologies as a vehicle for transforming the audience relationship and business models in journalistic media

The project focuses on the mechanisms through which digital technologies facilitate the transformation of journalistic media. Digital transformation and the rapid rise (and fall) of relevant technologies such as chatbots, automated journalism, live video platforms and social outreach apps challenge established journalism on several fronts.

Our focus is on the changing audience relationship and the novel business models emerging consequently. This technology-enabled transformation is approached by three viewpoints: (1) rethinking content and content production, (2) interaction and new touch points between audiences and journalism and (3) novel financing models and business opportunities. This multidisciplinary project forecasts the future landscape of journalistic media in terms of emerging, disruptive technologies and supports the industry in facing this transformation. The project is conducted in close cooperation with key stakeholders, e.g., experts from the media industry and journalism, researchers of technology and communication, audience members and young visionaries.
