Internationalisation and global opportunities for degree students

Internationalisation is at the core of the University of Vaasa experience. All students studying for a degree can participate in international activities.

The University of Vaasa is committed to preparing graduates who can thrive in international, diverse, and rapidly changing societies and workplaces. Through international learning opportunities, you will  develop intercultural competence, global perspectives, language and communication skills, and valuable networks that support both personal growth and future careers.

Internationalisation can take many forms. In addition to studying in an international classroom environment in Vaasa, students can further broaden their global experience through:

  • Student exchange programmes
  • Double degree opportunities
  • International internships
  • Summer schools and short-term blended programmes
  • International projects and courses

Why include an international experience in your studies?

International experiences help you develop the knowledge, skills, and perspectives that are increasingly valued by employers and needed to address global challenges.

By participating in international activities, you can:

  • Strengthen your intercultural competence and global awareness
  • Enhance and strengthen language, communication and teamwork skills
  • Gain new academic perspectives and expertise
  • Build international networks and friendships
  • Improve your adaptability, confidence, and problem-solving abilities
  • Learn from different cultures, societies and ways of working
  • Contribute to a globally connected future

Many options for maximising your global experience

International mobility allows you to enrich your studies through academic and cultural exchange with our quality partners around the world. Exchange studies are incorporated into your University of Vaasa degree, either through replacing corresponding courses or modules, integrating them into your major or study track, or completing a separate study module.

Through Double Degree agreements, you can split your time between Vaasa and a partner university, by following a jointly recognised study plan. You will earn two degree certificates, one from each institution, without doubling your study time.

International traineeship opportunities offer you valuable work experience on the global market. You can receive financial support, while earning work experience that generate credits for your degree.

Should you prefer to stay in Vaasa, you can internationalise at home, for example through our International Summer School.
