Introduction

Teaching and research in energy law and policy, and international law at the University of Vaasa's School of Management. As part of the Public Law, Public Policy and Governance research group, my research interests involve examining the legal and policy frameworks: (1) governing the production and use of energy resources, (2) the regulation of natural gas and electricity markets, and (3) the development of clean energy technologies, such as hydrogen, wind energy, carbon capture, utilisation, and storage projects.

Fields of expertise

Energy Law and Policy, International Business Law, Energy Markets and Regulation, European and International Law

DOCTORAL RESEARCH SUPERVISION

The following are topics and themes for potential doctoral research projects I am interested in supervising

  • Risk management, contractual, and regulatory instruments for commercialising net-zero energy technologies.
  • International investment protection frameworks and clean energy incentives or subsidies.
  • Assessing the impact of law and regulation on the security and commercialisation of energy systems such as gas-to-power, power-to-X, offshore wind, mini-grids and distributed energy resources, energy storage.
  • ESG issues in the governance of mining and critical mineral supply chains for clean energy technologies
  • Sustainability of energy use in the transportation sector.

The following are topics and themes for ongoing doctoral research projects I supervise-

  • Regulation and permitting of renewable energy projects internationally and in Europe
  • Examining good governance measures and human rights protection in the context of oil and gas production in Africa and Europe
  • Managing conflicts over energy production and supply networks
