Developing a Sustainable and Attractive Research Environment

At the University of Vaasa, we are committed to creating an attractive, inclusive and supportive environment for researchers. Through the HR Excellence in Research process, we continuously develop researchers' working conditions, career support, recruitment practices and research environment in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers.

The University of Vaasa was awarded the HR Excellence in Research recognition by the European Commission in 2014 and has since advanced its work through successive action plans, internal reviews and continuous development of its policies and practices.

What does HR Excellence in Research mean?

The University of Vaasa is committed to implementing the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and continuously improving the research environment, working conditions and career opportunities for researchers. Our work is guided by the four pillars of the Charter.

Ethics, Integrity, Gender and Open Science

We foster responsible conduct of research, research integrity, equality, diversity and inclusion, academic freedom, and open science.

Researchers' Assessment, Recruitment and Progression

We promote open, transparent and merit-based recruitment, responsible assessment of researchers, and fair and transparent career progression.

Working Conditions and Practices

We provide working conditions and workplace practices that support researchers, including employment conditions, supervision, equality, work-life balance and participation in the research community.

Research Careers and Talent Development

We support continuous professional development, training, mobility, career management and lifelong learning throughout researchers' careers.

Our Action Plans

The principles of the European Charter for Researchers are implemented through the University of Vaasa's HR Excellence in Research Action Plans. The action plans identify areas for development, define concrete measures, and support the continuous enhancement of researcher careers, working conditions, recruitment practices and the research environment.
