Registration at DVV (Digital and Population Data Services Agency)

When you arrive to Finland as a foreign citizen, you need to register your personal data into the Finnish Population Information System.

DVV organizes some slots for new students at the University of Vaasa on tuesday 26.8., thursday 28.8., monday 1.9. and tuesday 2.9. at 9-12 and 13-15.

Address: Wolffintie 35 B, 2nd floor, 65200 Vaasa, right across the University of Vaasa campus.

DVV pop-up days at the DVV office in Vaasa: 20.8 and 10.9 at 13-15.

If you don’t have a Finnish personal identity code

If do not yet have a personal identity code, you must apply for one using an online form. The form must be completed before arriving at the registration event. When filling out the form, you must have all required supporting documents available, such as a travel document (passport for non-EU citizens, passport or official national ID card for EU nationals), a study certificate, and a possible residence permit. If you already have a Finnish personal identity code

Often, student receive a personal identity code as part of a positive residence permit decision. In that case, the code can be found on the residence permit card. If you have a personal identity code, you can request a municipality of residence using an online form, provided the conditions for obtaining a municipality of residence are met. The form must be completed before arriving at the registration event. More information: https://dvv.fi/en/municipality-of-residence

If you have a personal identity code but do not meet the conditions for obtaining a municipality of residence, they can report a temporary address. More information: https://dvv.fi/en/international-moving

Note also that if you do not want to register a municipality of residence or you do not meet the requirements and you already have a personal identity code: a change-of-address notification for a temporary address can be made at the nearest post office (there is no need to visit the Digital and Population Data Services Agency at all).

If your surname starts with A, B, C: Tuesday 26 August, 9:00-12:00
If your surname starts with D, E, F, G, H, I, J: Tuesday 26 August 13:00-15:00
If your surname starts with K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R: Thursday 28 August 9:00-12:00
If your surname starts with S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z: Thursday 28 August 13:00-15:00

If you cannot show up according to this schedule for some reason, you may visit on 2 September 13:00-15:00.

Note: if you do not have a surname, you may arrive according to your first name’s first letter.

DVV visits for exchange students will be organized 1st and 2nd of September. Please follow schedule provided by Mobility Services.

To ensure the registration event proceeds smoothly, it is important that students arrive at the correct time. You must bring a travel document, (passport for non-EU citizens, passport or official national ID card for EU nationals), a study certificate, and a possible residence permit. If you have a type A residence permit, you do not need to bring a study certificate.
