Programme-specific criteria in rolling admission

In addition to the general admission criteria, all the Master's programmes have their own specific admission criteria. The admission criteria contains information about the selection process and evaluation of applications. They also state, for example, the number of students selected to the programme annually.

Please remember also to read through the general admission criteria for more information about the application process and information on how to submit the application form and the required documents to the University.

Therefore, if you apply for admission to more than one Master's programme, please check the criteria and instructions for all the programmes you are interested in.

Only courses that have been obtained and are visible on the transcript of records submitted with the application will be considered when evaluating the applicant’s educational background. University of Vaasa reserves the right to decide whether a degree and/or university meet our requirements or not.

University of Vaasa does not evaluate the relevance of the applicant’s educational background in advance. The evaluation is only done during the processing of the applications with the application and enclosures at hand.

Master's Degree Programme in Finance

Students are eligible for admission to the two-year Master’s Degree Programme in Finance (120 ECTS), if they have completed a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. The appropriate fields include business studies, mathematics and statistics. The programme leads to a Master of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration.

The 10 first applicants to fulfill all requirements will be offered admission. To be considered for admission to the Master's Programme in Finance, the applicant must fulfil the following criteria:

1. Scope of the degree

  • A 3- or 4-year Bachelor (or Master’s) degree at university or polytechnic level outside Finland

2. Prior studies at Bachelor level or higher in the core areas of the programme

3. Applicant’s performance (i.e. GPA) in previous studies, including the thesis or ‘final report’ (i.e. the final assignment students must complete in circumstances where a thesis is not used)

  • The overall grade (GPA) at least 3/5 (ECTS grading) and the grade of the thesis at least 3/5 for a Bachelor’s degree from a university, or equivalent in the systems not using the ECTS.
  • The overall grade (GPA) at least 3/5 (ECTS grading) and the grade of the thesis or ‘final report’ at least 3/5 for a Bachelor’s degree from a polytechnic, or equivalent in the systems not using the ECTS.

4. English language proficiency as instructed in admission criteria

Applicants that satisfy all the above criteria will be admitted in the order they apply until the intake is full. Applications are evaluated only after they are complete: If all the required enclosures are not submitted the applicant’s application will not be processed until they are submitted. The enclosures have to be submitted within one month of sending the application, otherwise the application will be rejected.

Master's Degree Programme in International Business

Students are eligible for admission to the two-year Master’s Degree Programme in International Business (MIB programme) if they have completed a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. The degree must be from a university or a polytechnic located outside Finland. The MIB programme is open both for international and Finnish applicants who have a degree from outside of Finland. The programme leads to a Master of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration.

The 10 first applicants to fulfill all requirements will be offered admission. Applicants must fulfill all the following requirements:

1. Scope of the degree

  • A 3- or 4-year Bachelor (or Master’s) degree at university or polytechnic level outside Finland

2. Prior studies at Bachelor level or higher in the core areas of the programme

  • For the MIB programme these areas are: international business, marketing, and management and organization
  • Other than Business graduates: degree on an appropriate field focusing on international aspects (for example international relations, international politics, international communications) if candidates can demonstrate a proper background in business studies as follows: minimum of 35 ECTS in business studies (international business, marketing and/or management) is required.

3. Applicant’s performance (i.e. GPA) in previous studies, including the thesis or ‘final report’ (i.e. the final assignment students must complete in circumstances where a thesis is not used)

  • The overall grade (GPA) at least 3/5 (ECTS grading) and the grade of the thesis at least 3/5 for a Bachelor’s degree from a university, or equivalent in the systems not using the ECTS.
  • The overall grade (GPA) at least 3/5 (ECTS grading) and the grade of the thesis or ‘final report’ at least 3/5 for a Bachelor’s degree from a polytechnic, or equivalent in the systems not using the ECTS.

The degree must be from a university or a polytechnic located outside Finland. The programme is open both for international and Finnish applicants who have a degree from outside of Finland. The programme leads to a Master of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration.

The 10 first applicants to fulfill all requirements will be offered admission. Applicants must fulfill all the following requirements:

1. Scope of the degree

  • A 3- or 4-year Bachelor (or Master’s) degree at university or polytechnic level outside Finland

2. Prior studies at Bachelor level or higher in the core areas of the programme

  • For the Programme in Strategic Business Development these areas are: international business, marketing, and management and organisation
  • Other than Business administration field if candidates can demonstrate a proper background in business studies as follows: minimum of 35 ECTS in business studies is required (of which at least 25 ECTS in marketing, management or accounting & finance).

3. Applicant’s performance (i.e. GPA) in previous studies, including the thesis or ‘final report’ (i.e. the final assignment students must complete in circumstances where a thesis is not used).

  • The overall grade (GPA) at least 3/5 (ECTS grading) and the grade of the thesis at least 3/5 for a Bachelor’s degree from a university, or equivalent in the systems not using the ECTS.
  • The overall grade (GPA) at least 3/5 (ECTS grading) and the grade of the thesis or ‘final report’ at least 3/5 for a Bachelor’s degree from a polytechnic, or equivalent in the systems not using the ECTS

The programme leads to Master of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration.

The 10 first applicants to fulfill all requirements will be offered admission. Applicants must fulfill all the following requirements:

1. Scope of the Degree

  • A 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (or Master’s) in an appropriate field outside Finland
  • The appropriate fields include e.g. business studies or technology.
  • Previous degree / studies must include courses in the business studies regardless the major subject in the degree.

2. Prior studies at bachelor level or higher in the core areas of the programme

Students are eligible for admission to the two-year Master’s Programme in Industrial Systems Analytics if they have completed a Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field. The degree must be from a university or a polytechnic located outside Finland. The programme is open both for international and Finnish applicants who have a degree from outside of Finland. The programme leads to Master of Science degree in Technology.

The 10 first applicants to fulfill all requirements will be offered admission. Applicants must fulfill all the following requirements:

1. Scope of the Degree

  • A 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (or Master’s) in an appropriate field outside Finland
  • The appropriate fields include e.g. industrial engineering, systems engineering or similar engineering field or other degree in a closely related field and appropriate additional studies.
  • A degree in business studies is not an appropriate degree unless it includes sufficient amount of appropriate studies in a field of technology.

2. Prior studies at bachelor level or higher in the core areas of the programme

3. Applicant’s performance (i.e. GPA) in previous studies, including the thesis or ‘final report’ (i.e. the final assignment students must complete in circumstances where a thesis is not used)

  • The overall grade (GPA) at least 3/5 (ECTS grading) for a Bachelor’s degree from a university, or equivalent in the systems not using the ECTS.

The programme leads to Master of Science degree in Technology.

The 10 first applicants to fulfill all requirements will be offered admission. Applicants must fulfill all the following requirements:

1. Scope of the Degree

  • a 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (or Master’s) in an appropriate field outside Finland
  • The appropriate fields include e.g. electrical engineering, energy technology, automation technology, telecommunications engineering, or similar engineering field or other degree in a closely related field and appropriate additional studies.
  • A degree in business studies is not an appropriate degree unless it includes sufficient amount of appropriate studies in a field of technology.

2. Prior studies at bachelor level or higher in the core areas of the programme

In the rolling admission, the degree must be from a university or a polytechnic located outside Finland. The programme is open both for international and Finnish applicants whose degree has been or is to be completed outside of Finland. The programme leads to Master of Science degree in Technology.

The 10 first applicants to fulfill all requirements will be offered admission. Applicants must fulfill all the following requirements:

1. Scope of the Degree

  • a 3-4 year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (or Master’s) in an appropriate field outside Finland

  • The appropriate fields include e.g. industrial management and engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, computer science and engineering, information technology, automation technology, mechanical engineering or similar engineering field or other degree in a closely related field and appropriate additional studies. A degree in business studies is not an appropriate degree unless it includes sufficient amount of appropriate studies in a field of technology.

2. Prior studies at bachelor level or higher in the core areas of the programme
