Are you interested in climate issues and more sustainable solutions?

Now, our students have an excellent opportunity to go deeper into these topics, as the University of Vaasa joins the Climate University network together with 17 higher education institutions.

The first Climate University courses open to all students at partner universities will start in January 2022. Enrolment is open now. The Climate University courses are suitable for students, teachers and professionals interested in climate change and sustainability. The courses are mainly in English, but translations into Finnish and Swedish are also being worked on.

The course materials are open to all, but to receive credits, students must be enrolled at either the University of Vaasa or the Open University of Vaasa. The courses are mainly online courses.

The first Climate University courses are:

  • Leadership for sustainable change (main responsibility: the University of Helsinki)
  • SystemsChange.now (led by Aalto University)
  • ClimateComms.now (University of Oulu)

Experts from the different universities have collaborated to design the course content. The Institute for atmospheric and Earth system research (INAR) from the University of Helsinki is the managing organisation of the network.

- Climate is a complex system and climate change affects us all. Therefore, raising awareness and understanding is essential. The Climate University is a very good tool and entity for this, says Academy Professor Markku Kulmala, the director of INAR.
