The European Commission has given the HR Excellence in Research award to the University of Vaasa in recognition of the development activities related to the working conditions and careers of researchers.

The award demonstrates that the University of Vaasa is committed to systematically improving researchers’ working conditions. The professional development of researchers is emphasized in the development work. The award supports implementation of the existing HR Policy work and strengthens internal cooperation at the university.

The precondition for receiving the acknowledgement is that the university adheres to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, defined by the European Commission. In practice this means, that the university conducts an internal analysis to compare its practices with the Charter and Code. Comparisons are made in areas such as ethics, training and recruitment. The university then develops and publishes an action plan to illustrate how it will adopt the Strategy.

The HR department of the university has coordinated the HR Excellence in Research process. The entire university community – researchers, management as well as the university administration – have contributed to gaining the recognition. After receiving the award, the development work will continue with the implementation of the Action Plan as well as regular internal and external assessments.
