Jari Kuusisto to continue as Rector of the University of Vaasa

In accordance with the decision of the Board of the University of Vaasa, Jari Kuusisto will continue as rector of the university until 30 June 2017.

"The University of Vaasa is living through a period of change, and we look to the future with confidence. We are actively developing the areas of focus under our new strategy, which include: Management and change, Energy and sustainable development, and Finance and economic decision-making," says Kuusisto.

As of the academic year 2017, the University of Vaasa will be moving its research and degree programmes in languages to the University of Jyväskylä as per the letter of intent. According to Kuusisto, preparations will begin this autumn.

"The university community will jointly review the challenging changes which will serve as building blocks for future success."

Suvi Ronkainen will continue in special tasks until 30 June 2017 as Senior Advisor. This set-up ensures that Ms Ronkainen's part-time arrangement related to her post-rehabilitation can be implemented.

In addition to his duties as dean, Jukka Vesalainen will serve as Vice Rector of the University of Vaasa until 30 June 2017.

The Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Vaasa, Professor Hannu Katajamäki will retire on 30 November 2016. Professor Harry Lönnroth will begin on 1 September 2016 as the new dean of the Faculty of Philosophy. Until his retirement, Professor Katajamäki will serve as an adviser to the Faculty of Philosophy and provide support to the Dean at the beginning of new Dean's term of office.

Professor Erkki Antila will continue as Dean of the Faculty of Technology. The term of office of each Dean will terminate on 31 July 2017.
