1. New students with Finnish online banking credentials
In this option, the user account is activated using Finnish online banking credentials. If you do not have Finnish online banking credentials, please proceed to option 2.
The activation of user account can be done no earlier than 1st of August onwards. Note that you must be registered for the academic year first. If you have just registered as attending for the academic year, please wait approximately 3 working days before attempting to activate your user account.
If you have Finnish online banking credentials, you can activate your user account through our IT Services’ website: https://login.uwasa.fi/
2. Signicat identification service for those new students who do not have Finnish online banking credentials yet
In this option, the user account is activated using Signicat identification service. This option is available for those new students who do not have Finnish online banking credentials yet.
You cannot activate your user account unless you have registered as attending for the academic year 2025-2026. A link to activate your user account via the Signicat identification service will be sent to new students who did not have a Finnish personal identity code during the application process and whose country of residence is other than Finland. The link will be sent by email to the email address you provided in your application.
The links will be sent in batches. The timing of when you receive the link depends on when you registered as attending for the academic year 2025–2026. The links will be sent according to the following schedule:
- Those who register as attending by August 3rd will receive their activation link via email by August 7th at the latest.
- Those who register as attending by August 10th will receive their activation link via email by August 14th at the latest.
- Those who register as attending by August 17th will receive their activation link via email by August 21st at the latest.
- Those who register as attending by August 24th will receive their activation link via email by August 28th at the latest.
- Those who register as attending by August 31st will receive their activation link via email by September 4th at the latest.
- Those who register as attending by September 7th will receive their activation link via email by September 11th at the latest.
- Those who register as attending by September 15th will receive their activation link via email by September 18th at the latest.
For the activation process you will need a valid identity document such as passport and laptop, mobile phone or tablet with a good-quality camera and well-lit space. The user account activation process proceeds as follows:
1. You will receive a link to the Signicat identification service by email according to the schedule. The message will be sent from helpdesk@uwasa.fi (sender: Vaasa University Helpdesk, subject: Video authentication request). Please also check your spam folder in case the message has been directed there.
2. Start the user account activation process as soon as possible after receiving the link. You will need a valid identity document, such as a passport, and a well-lit space for the activation process. Place your passport on a well-lit surface and begin the activation using a laptop, phone or tablet with a good-quality camera.
3. Start the activation process by clicking the link provided in the message. Follow the instructions given by the Signicat identification service.
4. Once the identification is successful, you will receive your user account and password.
5. If the activation fails, please contact it@uwasa.fi.
If you have not received the link required to activate your user account, first check whether you have registered as attending for the academic year and review the delivery schedule for the links. If you have already registered and, according to the schedule, you should have received the link by now, please contact admissions@uwasa.fi
