Raine Hermans to be the new dean of the School of Technology and Innovation

Doctor of Science in Technology Raine Hermans has been appointed as Dean of the School of Technology and Innovation at the University of Vaasa. Hermans will take up his new role on 1 July.

Hermans has experience working in academia, government as well as industry. Currently, he is the Managing Director of Innovation Programs at Xinova Europe. Previously, Hermans has worked in managerial positions, for example, in innovation funding at Tekes (now Business Finland) and construction company Fira. He is also a docent at the Aalto University School of Business. Hermans obtained his doctorate in technology from the Helsinki University of Technology in 2004. His dean’s term will last until 31 July 2024.

The dean manages the school’s activities, is responsible for its performance, finances and efficiency, and acts as the manager of the employees of the school. The duties of the dean also include promoting collaboration between the schools and research platforms and within the school. The dean is responsible for developing and monitoring the quality of the degree programmes.

The current Dean of the School of Technology and Innovation Harry Linnarinne will become the liaison director of the university starting from 1 July.  This appointment is to emphasise the continuity of the public relations of the university and the activities of the school.
