The University of Vaasa welcomes Sirpa Pietikäinen, the Member of the European Parliament, to join a seminar devoted to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues on September, 4th.

In recent years, ESG reporting has become one of the major factors in how companies and corporations achieve investor and public trust. Investors increasingly make decisions based on objectives for reducing risk, augmenting returns and generating positive sustainability impacts. Pressure from stakeholders and investors is combined with recent changes to reporting regulations to drive an ESG boom, and ESG is increasingly being integrated into enterprise value. Most notably, the European Commission has very recently formally adopted the first set of 12 European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) on the 31st July 2023. In the seminar we will discuss the latest changes to ESG reporting and the ongoing research projects conducted by researchers from School of Accounting and Finance, the University of Vaasa.

The program of the seminar:

10:15-10:30 Opening words, Rector, Minna Martikainen

10:30-11:00 Speech by MEP, Sirpa Pietikäinen: New paradigm - ESG on the same level with finance governance and reporting
