Studies in Smart Grids offer you the latest knowledge in ongoing energy transitions and excellent capabilities to renew the industry and create future-proof solutions for sustainable and resilient energy systems.

By completing this degree, you will be able to:

  • analyse and assess the effect of green energy transition, digitalisation, and new enabling technologies on future smart energy solutions
  • plan, research and develop new intelligent solutions for resilient and smart energy systems by using different simulation tools
  • understand the role of new technologies and components (energy storages, advanced ICT solutions), concepts (microgrids, energy communities), energy networks integration (sector-coupling) and new market and business models on energy transition
  • lead and manage different new solutions development, planning, and research projects as well as use existing sources of information critically and produce new knowledge in the multidisciplinary field of future smart energy systems

In addition, the degree prepares for research work and gives you eligibility for further studies in electrical engineering and electrical energy engineering.

The major in Smart Grids is a part of the master’s programme in Smart Energy. The duration of studies is 2 years (120 ECTS credits). For a detailed degree structure, see our Study Guide.

Having previous studies in subjects like electrical engineering, energy technology, automation technology, telecommunications engineering, or a similar engineering field will set you up for success. Please note that a business degree is not considered appropriate unless it includes a sufficient amount of relevant studies in technology (55%).
