The new study voucher will be introduced on 5 August 2026. The voucher offers 30 study credits in higher education free of charge to young people who graduated from upper secondary education but who were not able to get a study place. The objective of this three-year trial, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Culture, is to offer easier access to higher education studies and to help young people find studies that suit them.

The Finnish language and culture summer course, organised jointly by Linginno, the language centre of the University of Vaasa, and the Finnish National Agency for Education, has once again brought international students to the campus in July. A total of 30 students from 13 different countries are taking part in the course, and they study Finnish at their home universities either as a major or a minor subject.

The University of Vaasa has received funding from Business Finland for a research project aimed at accelerating the international growth of Finnish small and medium-sized industrial companies through circular economy solutions. The project, International circular business model innovations for accelerated internationalisation, focuses on how circular economy-based business models can be made to work effectively across different international markets.

Salla Maijala’s doctoral dissertation in social and health management provides research-based knowledge to develop management within the sector.

Two new professors started at the University of Vaasa in June. Their research addresses current sustainability challenges from the perspectives of accounting and finance. Professor of Accounting (ESG reporting and sustainability) Tatiana King studies sustainability reporting and climate risks, while Professor of Finance (international financial markets) Vanja Piljak focuses on sustainable finance and investment.

The EUNICE network organised the summer school Strengthening Resilience in the Times of Polycrises, with the University of Vaasa leading its organisation in Vaasa and Helsinki. Over the course of the week, 20 students from across Europe had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with Finland’s comprehensive security model. The programme also featured a visit from internationally renowned intelligence expert, Professor Jan Goldman from the United States.

Two subprojects funded by the Strategic Research Council (SRC) of the Research Council of Finland will be transferred to the University of Vaasa, along with their research teams. The host organisation will change from VTT to the University of Vaasa as of 15 June 2026. The projects are AIdemoc, part of the DEMOC programme, and CAREFUTURE, part of the SKILLS programme.
