Graduating with a Master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration in 2008, Tolvanen has built an impressive career in leadership roles within technology companies, serving as a visible role model for students. He has also strengthened the university’s ties with the business world through his involvement in fundraising efforts.

Chair of the Women Entrepreneurs of Finland, entrepreneur Katja Rajala has been elected as the University of Vaasa's Alumna of the Year 2024.
Rajala graduated from the University of Vaasa in 2007 with a Master's degree in Social and Health Administration. Her minor was public law.

Mika Somppi, Head of Administration at the European Commission Representation in Finland and one of our alumni, began his journey on an international career about 16 years ago. He was hired directly from university to work in Brussels. Now, Somppi encourages students and graduates of Finnish universities to apply for opportunities in the European Union (EU) because having professionals from different backgrounds in EU roles is essential.

The national career monitoring survey shows that graduates from University of Vaasa are well employed. As many as 97 % of the respondents were employed, self-employed or freelancers at the time of the survey. 33 % are working in Ostrobothnia region.

Under-Secretary of State Jarno Syrjälä has been named alumnus of the year 2023 at the University of Vaasa. Syrjälä graduated with a master's degree in economics and business administration in 1988 from the former degree programme in marketing and international trade. Since graduation, he has built an impressive career as a diplomat, and he has also shared his expertise as a lecturer and seminar speaker at the university.
