To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Riitta and Jorma J. Takanen Foundation has donated €120,000 to the University of Vaasa for the development of research infrastructure. With this donation, the university will build capabilities in its engine laboratory between 2026 and 2028 to utilise hydrogen and store energy. At the same time, the university strengthens its long-term commitment to energy research and sustainable energy solutions.

The substantial donation supports AI research at thirteen universities: Aalto University, Hanken School of Economics, National Defence University, Tampere University, University of Eastern Finland, University of Helsinki, University of Lapland, University of Jyväskylä, University of Oulu, University of the Arts Helsinki, University of Turku, University of Vaasa, and Åbo Akademi University. Additionally, the donation supports the activities of the international ELLIS Institute.

In honour of its 85th anniversary, the Gustaf Svanljung Endowment Fund has donated €70,000 to the University of Vaasa for the development of research infrastructure. With this donation, the university will expand its engine laboratory in 2024–2025 to incorporate hydrogen utilisation and energy storage. This way, the university will continue its long-term investment in energy research and sustainable energy solutions.

The challenge campaign in support of the University of Vaasa received an impressive opening when the board of the university donated 13,200 euros to the ongoing fundraising campaign in honour of the end of its term. The board also decided to challenge others to support the University of Vaasa by donating or speaking out on behalf of the fundraising campaign.

The University of Vaasa has launched a new fundraising campaign. The target of the campaign is to collect EUR 5 – 7 million of private funds for the matched funding scheme by the Finnish state. Each donated euro up to 11 million euros is matched by up to 2.5 euros by the state. A key objective with the fundraising campaign is to build long-term strategic partnerships.
