The University of Vaasa among the top 500 universities in the world in the prestigious THE rankings
For the first time, the University of Vaasa has made its way to the top 500 universities in the world in the 2022 THE rankings. Times Higher Education (THE) has one of the most prestigious international university rankings. – This is an important step for us in strengthening our international position, underlines Rector Jari Kuusisto.
The THE rank evaluates universities in five areas: research, references, teaching, internationalisation, and corporate financing. The rankings are compiled on the basis of a total of 13 indicators. The University of Vaasa is in the 401–500 rankings among the 1,662 universities evaluated.
The strengths of the University of Vaasa are the number of scientific publications per staff, references to scientific articles (that is the impact of publications), and co-authored international publications.
– We are very proud to be among the most prestigious universities in the world. This gives us a good basis for the next steps in our internationalisation. We believe that the competition over international students will intensify further. This report gives us important information about what our strengths are and where we still have room for improvement, Rector Kuusisto describes.
The most important areas for development include increasing the number of international students and external funding.
A total of 1,662 universities were ranked in the THE ranking list. The ranking list included ten Finnish universities. In the national comparison, the ranking of the University of Vaasa is the eight.
